Ma’am, I just don’t see how you owe any of us a mea culpa. How could you have possibly anticipated how you would be impacted by your health? No one can know how they will recover until they’ve done it once, and even then each time is different because circumstances change. Please be more kind to yourself

Being a person on earth is hard, why anyone would add the stress of being an artist to the experience is one of the Sacred Mysteries.

Is what you’re doing good? Is it bad? Will no one care until after you’re dead? The constant search for validation and little green pieces of paper is exhausting and maddening.

I was so frustrated with attempting to be an artist I gave it up in my 20’s to make a bigger paycheck. With the armies of darkness arrayed before me I put down my sword, took off my armor, and ran screaming from the field.

It takes courage, perseverance, and maybe a bit of insanity to be an artist. I’ve enjoyed the artwork you’ve shared on this substack and I’m glad you didn’t give up the fight. Hang in there.

Personally I think it's wonderful that you care so much and have put the time and care into it. We can never know when health problems or some huge life change comes and changes everything. I love that you have stuck with it and I am sure it will be amazing! <3

Having seen your work, I know the graphic novel is worth waiting for. No complaints on timing here. Your health is paramount.

As somebody that has also felt the impact of a serious unexpected health battle I can relate. But you need to remember you are only human and your health must come first. Your fans know this and you have no need to apologize. Sending you hugs please be kind to yourself.

Oh, honey. I so get where you're coming from, but no. Brains happen. Bodies happen. Externalities... happen. You got through it, all of it, (tempted to add an "as usual" here) and the book will be amazing. Echoing the others here asking you to be kind to yourself. [er, and that was a heartfelt sympathetic "honey", not a patronising "honey"...]

You did it perfect. I’m proud of your work. And I’m glad to have supported a Kickstarter that cared about its artist this way. After the scandal broke, you were why I stayed. I look forward to getting my book.

I, for one, am quite confident that it will have been worth the wait - and was not in any hurry!

I read the novel when it first came out, then many times again since, and I look forward to reading it many more times enhanced by Colleen's artwork. 😁

Congratulations and thank you so much for everything you and the team have poured into this work!!! It’s absolutely a magnificent achievement, especially with the brutal path it took you to get there. I’m sure people will be delighted with it and I’m glad you got through it so well.

There are Stephen King collectors who ordered and paid for VERY expensive special editions of his books from Cenetery Dance publishers in 2014, who are only now getting the emails to confirm their shipping details now for just ONE variant of ONE of several editions ordered back then, which gives them hope that the edition should start shipping soon. I just thought I'd share that example because it makes me sad you felt the need to explain or apologise like this.

Personally, I didn't even blink at the time elapsed between backing and this year, and there will be so many others who feel the same way. Better that it's done right than done fast, and from the images you've posted, this is a HELLuva HEAVENly graphic novel (sorry, couldn't resist).

You weren't in control of what was happening to you, nor what happened within the franchise, while you were working on it and that fact along with your exceptional talent and basic human decency are I'm sure the reasons why the Dunmanifestin team chose to wait patiently and support you.

I am so excited to receive my copy !(and all the extras I bought 😁)

All the best to you and thank you for sticking with the project through everything, so that we reap the glorious benefits 🤗

Wow...I had no idea Cemetery Dance had those issues with a book. And frankly, had things just been a little bit different on Good Omens, you'd have had it six months ago, I think. I spent over 6 months taking a medication that was recalled in January for being defective. No wonder I wasn't feeling better.

Oh my goodness, that's awful! See? It really was outside of your control, so apologies not necessary (though I completely understand the urge to when you wanted/expected more of yourself). I hope you're on a reliably tested medication that suits you now.

You also were considerate, generous and brave enough to share what was happening with you while you were working, so people weren't in the dark either, which was great. Thank you for doing that. It can't have been easy.

Cemetery Dance has apparently gone that way with the delays over the past 10 years, from what I can tell from collectors' posts. That mostly coincided with the 10+ years when I couldn't afford to buy from them (I've been a customer for around 20 years now) and now I'm sort of glad!

There are some other small presses which do some absolutely gorgeous editions of his work (and other authors I like, such as Joe Hill) which I've discovered in the past few years and they seem more reliable than CD now, so I'm very choosy as to where I order these days.
