This month marks huge changes in my work and art life, a time of heartbreaking lows and giddy highs.
I like a quiet life, which is why I live on a mountain in the middle of nowhere.
I like to draw comics and work in my garden, though I look forward to a bit of a break from drawing comics right now. Nothing but coloring and covers and some commissions for awhile.
Anyway, here are some old photos from my garden.
The above snap is a picture of some red sunflowers in my studio. I just love that color!
This fluffy little fellow is a Teddy Bear sunflower!
This snap was the cover photo of my Facebook page for years.
Some of these photos were originally shot at very low res, but I was able to upscale them. I had no idea how to adjust the resolution on my camera. I think the upscaler did an amazing job. The only drawback is that some AI detectors will flag the final result as AI. Well, this is not AI, it's just a low res photo upscaled to high res.
One of the best things about having a garden is all the fresh tomatoes. I love to make big plates of salad. I've known people who claim they hate tomatoes and then you feed them an heirloom tomato from a garden, and they are just amazed.
I don't get much opportunity to grow tomatoes anymore because the deer out here are relentless, but heirlooms are easy to buy at my local farmer's market.
Happy bees.
Unfortunately, the deer also like to eat sunflowers, but here's a monster plant that escaped their dinner plate. This thing was about 7 feet high.
The above pic is of a miniature sunflower that I grow in pots on my deck.
Rows of sunflowers.
And sunflowers in autumn decorations.
End of summer.
Sunflowers for drawing board tea time.
I use a lot of sunflowers in my work such as in this commission of Death from Sandman drawn in colored pencils.
And in this poster art for a Ukraine refugee fundraiser.
I hope you'll consider picking up the Eisner Award winning COMICS FOR UKRAINE: SUNFLOWER SEEDS which benefits Ukrainian refugees.
Thank you for your kind support. I hope this post brightened your day.
So many beautiful aspects just by observing. Wonderful.
Delightful! Every time I look at a sunflower I understand why Van Gogh liked them so much. I also never liked tomatoes until I moved to the UK and then I loved them. Heirloom tomatoes were next level, just amazing!
