I enjoy your photos, Colleen. How wonderful to live with foxes, raccoons, bears, and deer—and how frustrating to be unable to have a vegetable garden. A couple I used to know used to live with a cows. The cows ate their irises and other plants, so they tried planting plants that deer dislike in the hope that the cows would have a similar response. The cows ate most of the new plants, of course. 😂

I love the window peeping deer, and the red flowers in the wrecked garden.

But mostly foxes, cute foxes.

May the natural rhythms inspire your work.

Your post today reminded me of the opening of The World of Peter Rabbit & Friends, a 90’s era animated series. Each episode began with a live action idyllic dramatization of Beatrix Potter writing her stories. The series was directed by Dianne Jackson, the woman who directed the British animation “The Snowman”. Here is a YouTube clip in case you want to watch:

Lovely property, I'd adore seeing the foxes so up close! I moved back to rural life last year after 6 years in the city and even living in town I think I'm much happier again just being closer to the woods anytime I want.

Nice!

We have resident fox in our neighbourhood (suburban Ottawa) though I didn’t know they were a danger to cats. Ours are indoor cats, so no major worries, but our rabbits and squirrels are less in numbers this year since we started seeing the fox.

Not as common a sighting but a coyote just wandered down our driveway into the backyard and through the hedge!

Red foxes are more likely to go for small cats or kittens, but we also have the big grey fox which is huge. My cat is a big boy, so I worry more about eagles, hawks, and coyotes and coywolves. The coyotes ate a neighbor's donkey. And, of course, feral dogs, very dangerous out here.

Stunning fauna! If I had foxes in my yard, I would never get anything done. They're so adorable!

Gorgeous. Also give me all the foxes. I miss living in places I would frequently see them. Deer are ubiquitous here (Bucks County PA); I've never seen a bear in the wild though, even in Boulder area. These photos are a great midday pick-me-up 🩵💙

Also - are those *climbing* petunias? I need some!

NO, but supertunias get pretty big and will spill over a pot in great waves. I love them.

You can grow from seed pretty easy, but also they are cheap at the nursery. I rarely buy petunias anymore because they reseed so readily, but mine have all crossbred, so I'm not getting a true breed. I have to buy if I want that. https://amzn.to/3PXcCHJ
