Blue Beetle!

Canceled!

The Blue Beetle comic from DC Comics was canceled with issue 18, right in the middle of my work on a new storyline featuring the Ted Kord Beetle with Keith Giffen as writer. https://www.cbr.com/blue-beetle-canceled-dc-comics/

I had to keep it a secret for a long time. Almost done, and then got the axe. Here’s a look at a splash page featuring a new heroine created by me and Keith Giffen. Pen and ink original art on DC Comics paper.

Was having a good time with it, but that’s how it goes, folks!

I really loved our heroine. I am not going to say much about her, but I was especially happy with her simple, effective costume. At least I think it was simple and effective!

I was still feeling pretty low health-wise when I did this, but it is some of my favorite superhero art of the last ten years or so. I did it (mostly) using crowquill pens and tried to go for a classic look. We got to use some of the old Ditko villains, too! What a blast!

Was a great time to work with my very special buddy Keith Giffen.

I miss him every single day.
