It takes almost no guts to make ugly assumptions willy nilly about someone you don’t know, but lots of guts to defend oneself these days (especially from online bullies).
I was reading your work on Valor the other day, and while you can feel the deadlines in it, I loved what you were capable of. Just wanted to chime in and say I enjoyed it.
People have weird ideas about artists. I think confusing "famous to you" and "famous", and then confusing "famous" and "wealthy" or "privileged". I think it may be youth; it takes some perspective and experience to have nuanced understanding, and that takes time.
I for one are grateful that you do what you do, because your art helped when I was not physically in very bad shape. Thankfully I did get better and nowadays I can still enjoy it very much. A heartfelt thank you Colleen.
I’ve found that people tend to assume to waylay their own guilt about what they are and aren’t doing in their lives. It sucks! And your response was more for those of us who know how hard creating anything in this world is, not for the ninnies who tell themselves that they could do xyz if only they had what they tell themselves others have. Thank you!
I can't imagine who would post such a question (I sincerely hope it was a question and not a statement) and why it matters. You provide this forum to provide us with info about the art world and comic industry and certainly don't need to justify yourself to anyone.
P.S. LOVED the 'supergirl' and super dog print from the previous post.
Very impressive… I really admire you. You’ve got great qualities which maybe I would have developed more of if my parents hadn’t paid for my college and made things easier financially, I wonder. But it sounds like you would have been hard-working and an artist, in any scenario!
Substack is acting really wonky, so I am unable to edit MAGICAL AT FAIRY to MAGICAL ART FAIRY.
Aaand now it's working. Oy.
Good for you for standing up for yourself.

I think the "silver spoon" impression might be due to the elegance and clarity of your work.

Thank you for sharing. I am glad you choose to continue making art.

Brava, and thanks for posting.
Thank you for telling it like it is.
The following is not meant at all in a snarky way: You are a hero.
Wurd!!
