Jessica Jones Process
A look at the a bit of the process on this Jessica Jones piece for Marvel and Netflix. I don’t have all the steps here because I’d a doofus who lost the files, but you can see my thumbnails and pencils, and early stage painting.
I misunderstood the directions of the assignment at first, and didn’t grok that they wanted it to take place in an aquarium setting, so you can see how far-ranging some of the pics get. I started this job with a whopping case of the flu, and really struggled with it at first!
Pencil art.
The pencils are scanner into the computer and I color this in Photoshop.
Hilariously, this was done way before I knew the flatting process in digital color which would have made this go a lot faster.
I had no clue how to paint the water, the glass, or the octopus when I started this thing, so everything about it was a learning experience, and I really enjoyed it. The editor Emily Newcomen was super-helpful too, made great suggestions all the way!
I ended up using a photograph of water to help the background along.
The designer (whose name I can’t recall, sorry) did a great job of making the final painting look like a tattered comic!

Cool!! So glad she, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are coming back for season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again 👩🏻🐙
