In Which the Author Cajoles the Kind Reader to Buyeth the Books.
I made things. By myself and with other people.
I appreciate that you read my substack, and I am grateful for all your kind support. If you haven’t already, check out these titles which feature work by me and some lovely writers, colorists, and letterers.
These are Amazon links. I know some people hate Amazon, but as someone who lives on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, Amazon comes in pretty handy. But please support your local bookstore if you can.
At Amazon, The Complete American Gods hardcover slipcased edition is now on sale for a whopping 50% off. This is an absolutely gorgeous, award-winning collection, handsomely designed. Lovely David Mack cover. Featuring the work of P. Craig Russell, and Scott Hampton, I’m happy to have a short segment in this, too, one of my favorite art jobs. Written by Neil Gaiman, adaptation by P. Craig Russell.
The Complete Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, adaptation by P. Craig Russell, with many handsome segments by Jerry Ordway, Russell, Galen Shoman, Mike Mignola, and little me. Some really fun stuff in here.
Another beautifully designed volume with a stunning David Mack Cover. To be released on December 12. Currently 23% off.
Neil Gaiman’s Snow, Glass, Apples adapted by me with letters by Todd Klein. Winner of the Eisner, The Bram Stoker Award, and the Ringo Award. Nominated for the Reuben, the Tripwire, and the Rondo. VERY DARK and not for children. Currently 41% off at Amazon. Also available in French, Spanish, and German.
Neil Gaiman’s Troll Bridge, I humbly submit, a bit more overlooked by the public than I would like, despite its being a the New York Times bestseller. A melancholy tale of the real horror of childhood: growing up. Not for children. Currently 14% off.
If I were going to push you to buy just one graphic novel for Christmas (and I’m doing that right now,) Neil Gaiman’s Chivalry, a sweet, gentle, all-ages tale of a kindly old lady who buys the Holy Grail in a thrift shop, only to find the legendary Sir Galaad at her door some days later, then this graphic novel would be it.
Yes, Galaad is the correct spelling, it’s the original spelling of the name Sir Galahad. You have to be a real King Arthur nerd to know that.
Chivalry is currently 35% off. It won the Eisner and Locus Awards this year, and was nominated for the Ringo, The Reuben, and the Excelsior Awards. It was also listed as a top ten graphic novel by the Washington Post and on the American Library Association list of Best Graphic Novels for Adults.
I did the art for this one in watercolor, ink, and real gold, and studied illuminated manuscripts for this project. I did the illuminated manuscript lettering while the other lettering was by Todd Klein, who was nominated for an Eisner, along with his other works this year.
If you’ve been reading my substack for awhile, you’ve seen mentions of my space opera graphic novel project A Distant Soil. While it’s currently on hold until I finish Good Omens, the record-breaking Kickstarter funded graphic novel adaptation of the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, the digitally restored editions of volumes I and II are currently available, published by Image Comics’ Shadowline imprint.
FWIW, these books are drawn and hand lettered in pen and ink. Almost all of the tones are hand-applied. Digital restoration is by Allan Harvey, a well-known specialist in comic book art restoration.
I am financing the continuation of the series at my Patreon if you’re interested in signing up.
Amazing Fantastic Incredible Stan Lee! Stan Lee’s autobiographical memoir, written by Peter David and Stan Lee. Yes, Stan really did work on this, we didn’t just ghost it for him. I did the drawings, with some occasional help by Rantz Hoseley on the miserable deadline, and we had some wonderful color work by Bill Farmer and his team of assistants and Val Trullinger. A #1 the New York Times bestseller.
Very fun and breezy and suitable for all ages. Also available in multiple languages.
The Disney Princess Comics Treasury. Yes, that’s my pencil art on the film adaptation of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. It’s in over 50 editions, sold over 3 million copies, and Disney doesn’t pay royalties. But if you order from an Amazon link, I get an affiliate cut.
Just sayin’.
This book is huge, BTW.
Warren Ellis’s Orbiter. As a lifelong space nerd, getting to work on this was pure joy. I count this among my happiest memories in comics. It is available in paperback.
A techno-thriller about a manufactured plague?
Alas. The Clock was released one month into the COVID pandemic. Talk about timing.
It took me forever to get off the ground with this project, and I can only praise author Matt Hawkins for his indulgence. I really enjoyed working with him.
I’d post more, but this one is already too long for email.
Amazon Affliliate, yeah I get a small percentage if you buy something. Yay.
